It works
As far as I know, It works. However, it appears that you can also use regular cheap miniDVs to record in HD format. I haven't figured out yet if the expensive ones (that come in separate cases) are really superior to the regular cheap ones.

Made by Panasonic is DIFFERENT
I have not verified whether or not, as one reviewer says, Canon tapes are made by Panasonic. The most important thing to remember is that being made by Panasonic may mean nothing if the SPECS are by Canon. This is something I learned years ago in shopping for VCRs and also kitchen appliances: what a company makes under their own brand and what they make for someone else's brand usually use different specifications.

Not worth the money
After doing some digging, I've found out that Panasonic seems to be the supplier of Canon tapes. Makes sense since Canon camcorders used to be packaged with Panasonic tapes. Panasonic tapes are much cheaper and of the same quality as the Canon ones.
