I bought this Gitzo for when I really need to travel light (I own the GT3541XLS as well for when I need a sturdier tripod). I debated the traveller for some time. Was it worth $500 for a second tripod for occasional use? After 6 months of debate I broke down and bought it after forgoing a tripod on a recent weekend trip and feeling totally bummed by less than tack sharp shots. All I can say is WOW! Light but very sturdy. Holds my D700 with 70-200 f/2.8 and 300 f/4 Nikkor lenses very steady....

Gitzo 1541T Traveller tripod
Lightweight carbon fiber tripod, folds extremely small. I normally use a bigger stronger carbon fiber Gitzo tripod with an Acratech head for my Nikon D2X. I got the 1541T (with a lightweight Really Right Stuff head) for travelling light with hand luggage only. Certainly, my normal tripod better suits the weight of the Nikon with a decent lens, and the 1541 cannot match its strength and stability. VERY nice, light and STRONG tripod
I was a little hesitant about paying this much for a tripod but all I can say is that it is half the weight of most I have lifted yet extends to the same size. It is very compact when closed (about 17") and weighs (with the Gitzo G1278M head) about 3 pounds, which is great when I travel.
