Perhaps it's the SW
It may be the case that the SW is trying to burn too fast. I use Nero for burning, and every time I burn a DVD I have to tell it to burn at a slower speed than it picks. My guess is that the SW looks at the burner (not the medium) and tries to burn as fast as possible.
Since 2004 I've burned several hundred DVD's and, after a lot of losses with Memorex and other blanks, and a Lite-on burner (of which I'm obviously not so enamoured as are some other reviewers), I settled on a Pioneer burner (I...

Received a bad batch! Zero Stars!
I've tried to burn about five discs and all failed.
I have a very reliable burner: LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1L
I've notice the recording surface, the shiny surface, has many, many "rainbowing" distorted areas that follow the diameter of the disc from the center to the outer area. For sure this is a defect, as the surface should be mirror like, with no distortion.
Very disappointed...was avoiding Memorex brand as Verbatim was supposedly a much better brand. I just threw in the trash $30....

no coasters
I do not have a coaster yet with these verbatims. All burns have been perfect, no errors. Highly recommend these!
