If this was a USB card, it would get 5 stars
Like the title says, if this was a USB card, I'd give it 5 stars. But since the main reason I bought it was for the Firewire port, it drops down to 2 stars. I got this card so I could capture video from my miniDV camcorder onto my PC, but I was getting so many dropped frames (somewhere in the neighborhood of 75-100 per minute) that the resulting captured video looked like a flip book -- that was missing half the pages.

Very Useful, plus easy installation
I still have a use for firewire 400, just not on the front of the PC. A cable left plugged into the back is fine. My new Motherboard and PC case don't have firewire outlets on it. Hence a need for the card and extra USB ports always seem to be Handy.
I have a couple of External HDs that still use firewire 400 as the faster transfer mode (it IS faster than USB2 in extended flow mode, just not in burst rate). It is like comparing a road race which lasts for several hours to a drag race,...

No brainer installation, works as it should
Plugged it in, Windows XP Professional detected it and installed the appropriate drivers while I drank my coffee. It works as it is supposed to. Excellent product.
