Prolific PL-3507 reliable locally, unrealiable remotely
The previous reviewer (Zhou) erroneously states: "The manufacturer of the chip (Prolific) suggested update the enclosure's firmware, but it seems not suitable for this one. The size of the Prolific firmware is about 90 kB, while the one in this enclosure is only 32 kB which indicates the manufacture of the enclosure modified it to match its circuit design." I know for a fact this isn't true.
Unreliable Firewire Connection
I would rather rate this one as a piece of garbage. The first time I connected this enclosure via firewire, it gave me an error of "delayed write failed", the second time it just disappeared from the system during data transfer. This enclosure uses Prolific PL-3507 version C chip as the USB/Firewire to IDE bridge. There are lots of reports on the Internet about data loss caused by this chip, many of them have their partition tables trashed, no matter what your operating system is and what file s...
