Macally PHR-100AC FireWire/USB 2.0 3.5-Inch ATA Hard Drive Enclosure
works as described. I still prefer the larger external drives with a power connection to the wall....

Works well, but secure the plugs!
This was an easy enclosure to mount the drive in, and it appeared on my desktop as soon as I plugged it in to my MacBook Pro. So far it has worked very well. However, as some other buyers have noted, there really is a problem with the power cord pulling out of the back of the drive too easily, which can result in a badly damaged directory. (Thank God for Disk Warrior.) I suggest securing your power and Firewire/USB cables so they cannot jiggle out accidentally. I used a thick rubber band sl...

two enclosures, both failed, one destroyed all data
I've had two of these enclosures. Both of them failed within a few months. Suddenly the computer (Mac Powerbook G4 for the first one, Macbook Pro for the second one)was telling me that the drive was not readable. I ran diskwarrior and a bunch of other utilities, even took one of the drives to my mac guru technician.
