one year later...
I bought this computer one year ago and use it every day:
HP Pavilion DV9720US 17.0" glossy screen, AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-60 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD Multidrive with Lightscribe (no Blue-ray) Vista Home Premium.
I have had a great experience using this computer so far. I bought it specifically to replace my DVD and CD player, surf the web, and photo editing. I don't play games on it or use really RAM hogging software so I don't know much about how it would ...

Better ones out there for less.
I've had this laptop for while.
Pros:
=====
Decent hardware setup.
Reliable (exceptions see below)
Runs very quiet.
Cons:
=====
Remote does not work/no fix through HP.
Issues with Blue-ray/no fix through HP.
The usual plethora of pre-loaded software you do not want.
Vista.
If you want a decent workhorse, it's pretty good. If like the extras to work...well, keep shopping.

Good product
I am totally happy with the computer itself although the key popped off after a week but that's not a major issue. My only complaint is about HP service, the only way I can fix that is to send the computer back to them which will take 3 weeks or more to come back to me. I compare that with another manufacturer, it's really discouraging for future considerations.
