09 May 2009 Noisy Noisy Noisy! I bought this HD bc I had to backup my Laptop before a trip, and USB 2.0 is simply too slow. The only criteria I had, the drive had to have FW800.
The fan noise was noticible at first. No too bad.
Now 3 weeks later, it gets SO LOUD. If I move the drive around (tilt, turn upside down, ...) the noise changes from much less to even louder. The fan is obviously poorly installed, and gets off kilter, and noisy. Poor design or workmanship, I do not know.

19 Feb 2009 Too LOUD for my use Wish we had seen the warnings about the noise these units make before we bought them. We originally saw a similar unit (500GB) on the apple website and asumed if apple liked them, they must be good.

We bought four of these units for data storage in video production company, sometimes we need silence. But after one to two months of use, two of our units started buzzing so loudly that they had to be turned off. So much for easy access to data.

04 Dec 2008 Noisy & Hot I have owned this drive for several months and primarily use it as a network drive for media storage. There are a couple of noticeable and annoying traits apparent. First, the unit has a glaring indicator light which required a piece of electricians tape to make it merely tolerable. Secondly, the drive is extremely noisy and seems rather poorly made.
