Works right out of the box. All I had to do was plug it up and it works. One of the best features of this external drive is that it runs silently. One other good thing to, if either of the two drives were to go bad, you can easily replace it. The case is easy to open. If you are in the market for an external drive using firewire I would recommend this drive. –Jimmy Trammellfrom Amazon.com

Does not daisy-chain on FW800 for Mac OK drive stand-alone.

But disregard the product info: It does NOT daisy chain on FW800 bus on a Mac. WD Tech Support told me so. They have no fix planned at this time.

If you are serious enough to buy a FW800 drive, you are likely serious enough to want two of them... these do not daisy chain and so you will need to put one on FW400 or USB. –rickw432from Amazon.com
