What you get
I bought this drive [...] at ClubMac/PCMall and ran Western Digital DLGDIAG on this drive (4.3 MB download at http://support.wdc.com/download/windlg/WinDLG.zip) and it tells me that it is a WD10EAVS with 8 MB of cache. See http://www.wdc.com/en/library/sata/2879-701229.pdf
This utility gives you also the S.M.A.R.T. status and allows you to run the S.M.A.R.T. self test (5 minutes)
For rotational speed WD lists "IntelliPower" whatever that means. I am using in my wife's 2009 Mac mini via USB...

Don't Even Notice It
...and that's a good thing. Having had 5 (count 'em) Lacie drives fail on me in the last year, I resolved never to buy them again. This green drive just runs, no complaints, no noise, with my mac on a usb port. I did notice that it slowed significantly when attached to a USB hub instead of directly to the mac, but that's true of many usb peripherals, and more a factor of the hub than the drive. I may be tempting fate, but this drive has worked great for the last six months, and I am about to...

working but not reliable
my product works, but it is not reliable. i intended to use it to store video and audio to stream to a xbox 360 and later something like a WDHDTV.
Problem: Windows XP has problems recognizing it.
Can't start computer with it connected. It crashes the bios and freezes.
(the only solution i have is to wait till it get's to the OS select prompt, then plug it in, then select the OS and let windows load. I had Windows 7 dual booting and deleted it but i still have the OS select list bec...
