I loved it until it died...
Yup.
A great backup, until it started making nasty clicking sounds. The head can't read the platter. Got it as a backup and the backup has died.
WD has a "sorry about that" attitude towards the failure. I've since discovered that these failures are very very common, they fail quite quickly, it can be the day you fire it up, or they can run splendidly, as mine did, and then just crash with no warning.

Solid backup solution, esata is nice and fast
I bought this over a year ago. It's been great. I use the esata connection for my vista desktop, which gives me speeds close to my internal hd. My computer's motherboard does not support esata (nvidia 6150 chipset), so had to buy a sata-to-esata connector (screws into a psi slot), which connects to a sata connector on the motherboard, and an esata cable. Exactly What I Needed
I wanted an external drive for backup. This drive and the included backup software filled the bill to a "Tee". Since it is the emergency backup drive, I disconnect it when not in use to protect it, and it is very easy to bring up or power down.
The only knock I have is that documentation is sparse for both drive and backup software, but it is straightforward enough for someone who is not a total novice (after all, it is plug-and-play).
