Died in less than a year I've never used LaCie before but figured it was a trustworthy brand. After 11 months of smooth operation, the hard drive suddenly wouldn't mount and kept making a slow clicking noise. The whole point of a backup drive is that it stay reliable. I've had a cheap Mercury drive for 6 years now with no problems. I've contacted LaCie support who thinks the problem might be solved with a different adapter. I find this doubtful, but once it arrives, I'll follow up on this review.... –J. Yangfrom Amazon.com

works for me, so far I bought this external drive as an iMac "Time Machine" disc. Installation was extremely quick and painless. So far (after a few weeks) everything seems to be working fine. It is quiet and it is nice looking.

As everyone undoubtedly knows, one can buy 500GB external USB drives for about $100, so why would anyone pay a 50% price premium?
