Works like a charm
After researching what modems were compatible with Comcast, I picked this one. I decided to buy rather than rent from the cable company. It came, I took it out of the box, hooked it up and after a rather long call with Comcast (not the modem's fault) everything was up and running. Added an airport extreme, and my house is now wireless with a very fast connection. Totally satisfied with this product, have had it for about 6 weeks with ZERO problems/issues....

I was skeptical, but it's true!
After many years with the original Toshiba PCX1100 rented from the cable company, I decided to buy one of these units, hoping that I might start to see some change in my connection speed as hyped by Comcast's "Power Boost" marketing. When I ran internet speed tests I consistently got download speeds from 4-6 mbps, when Comcast said that PowerBoost now gave me up to 12. Upload speeds were pathetic - under 100 kbps! Just as others have said, once I plugged this in and registered it with Comcast...

excellent modem
I was paying Comcast each month for a modem and finally decided to buy the 5101--and chose this modem for two reasons: 1) the rented modem from Comcast was a 5101 and it ran perfectly for over a year, and 2) the positive reviews on this site.
A quick call to Comcast and they provisioned the new modem with a new MAC ID and with my new IP address. Plugged in my router, rebooted the computer, and voila!
