Need a techie degree to install it as a wireless. The Brothers Multipurpose mfc-7840w is a pain in the neck to set up with ones router. they give way too much info. as if we are all geeks. When my husband and I sorted thru all the directions, it still never worked. we plugged directly into the printer scanner and then it worked and printed fast. BUT, we paid more for the wireless and it just doesn't connect and gives us all kinds of messages which we follow, but to no avail. Must-have wireless printer/scanner! This is the best-value multi-function that prints and scans wirelessly from and to your computer. Fast and high quality laser printouts. The only drawback is if you want color prints, but it can scan in color in PDF or other formats.

This is a must-have printer/scanner for laptop and wireless users. It is relatively easy to setup within 30-45 minutes if you know how to setup a wireless router or network.

MFC 7840 - Great Printer with a Horrid Software Interface I purchased this wireless printer to make one printer available to everyone on my whole-house Mac-based network. The wireless setup was near-automatic [as usual on a Mac] and the printer works fine from all network stations. But then there is the Control software to configure the FAX, Scanner and Copier. It is the most unintuitive and clumsy user interface I've seen since the days of single-tasking DOS software over 20 years ago.
