unacceptable scans from negatives
This scanner produces faint white lines across nearly all output scans. I tried hi res scans and low res scans. I researched settings, ensured that I was scanning the proper side of the film negatives, turned off Ice, turned on Ice, etc. When viewing the output scan at a reduced size so that it fits on the screen the lines are *almost* undetectable; a quick glance and one will not notice, but look closely at the details and the lines are there. quality depends on settings
I did a LOT of experimenting with the settings. My conclusion? The scans are much more reliable if you leave all the digital ICE and all auto settings OFF, except for the medium amount of digital noise reduction. If you have and know Photoshop, you can fix things much more effectively there, including dust dots. Otherwise, nice clear scans. But the whole one-at-a-time thing is very annoying if (as I've read) flatbeds such as the CanoScan 9950F can do multiple items just as well.
