Good UPS from a bad company
I have quite a few UPS from APC and most work fine. I had a problem with one and discovered their Customer Support leaves a lot to be desired. My next UPS will NOT be from APC!

It can save your work
Not long after I bought my UPS I had a power outage. The computer kept running unphased. The only thing I had to do was unplug the monitor from the slave outlet and into the backup outlet so I could see the monitor to shut down the computer. The UPS kept a log of the outage. In fact, it showed that the power had come on and gone back off four times. This would have played havoc with the computer if it had been plugged into the wall directly.
