The best headphones I've ever owned
Others have already reviewed these headphones, but there was something I had to add; These headphones run to an acceptable volume (meaning a volume I'd actually listen at) through the integrated sound card of my computer. This goes completely against everything I've read on these headphones. Will they benefit from a headphone amplifier? Absolutely. Can you live without one? Well, yes, and no. sitting in a cathedral for a private performance
Just bought a used pair of 701's - e.g. broken in. Right now listening to Bach Mass in b minor and am in a small cathedral for a private performance by the best musicians in the world. Then, unfortunately open my eyes and realize I am sitting in my study. Otherworldy. If unadorned accuracy and fidelity is your desire, get these. If you want slam bang wallop and punch added to your music, go for another (denon 2000, 5000). I will never now be without these.

Wonderful headphones for classical and other acoustic music
I have been using the 701s for 2 years and every day they sound better. Their soundstage is superlative, their rendition of detail impressive, the highs are pure, pristine and natural, the bass is deep and big. I could go on.
