Does not communicate with Verizon Motorola Cable Box
I tried all 24 combinations of codes and Mode settings to get the IR hookup to work - to no avail. Sony Chat support was the absolute worst I have ever encountered in 20 years. The idiot tech kept referring to the use of the "Set Top Box Control" after I repeatedly informed him that It was connected, but I could not find any maufacturers code that would enable the communication of the DVR with the cable box! BAD PRODUCT, FREEZES DURING PLAY BACK, NO FIX
Unfortunately, I own two of thse units. They both have the same problem. The unit freezes while playing commercial DVDs that play perfectly on other players including other Sony models. Sony is aware of the problem with the 500 series (check the Sony website), AND SONY CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SAID SONY DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. Will not copy VHS to DVD
I purchased this recorder to archive my old VHS tapes and recommended by Sony. I have been able to make DVD's from material stored in the cable box; very easy. The problem I have is that it won't copy my old VHS tapes to DVD; it claims they are copy protected. These are not movies or purchased tapes that might be copy protected.
