not universal enough Pros: sturdy, illuminated buttons

Cons: those nice, sturdy, illuminated buttons don't do what I want. the pre-programmed codes were sufficient to get basic functions working on several devices (TV, VCR, receiver, DVD player), but when I tried to get this remote control to learn some other functions on my Denon AVR-3000 receiver and Sony XDR-F1HD tuner, it refused. I followed all of the tips in the owner's manual: I put new batteries in both remotes, I turned off the fluorescent lights, ... –Scott Stollerfrom Amazon.com

Warning: Does NOT work for INSIGNIA digital converter box I got this remote as an upgrade from my R6, because the R7 has more memory and the nifty back lighting feature. It is easy to program and to "teach" codes to, however it does not work properly for my Insignia (LG and Zenith) converter box.

It will only turn it off, and not back on. I spoke with tech support twice. One lady said that the remote is not programed to work with the converter boxes. Another rep walked me through several attempts to delete codes and try anew, etc., but not... –R. Papazianfrom Amazon.com

Does not work with many satelitte boxes If you have a dish network satelitte box the chances are slim to none that this remote will work out of the box. The problem is that code 122 doesn't work and there is no working code for dish in the remote. You will have to make it 'learn' every key on your old remote. Not all that hard, but it took over 20 try's for it to learn the info button. Quite a pain, but what really made me give this product only 2 stars is their technical support (or lack there of).
