Broken band solution!
After two broken bands (on the $20 refurb models), I figured out that if I take a tiny paperclip and tape it to the center of the band... totally prevents the band breakage problem. Several months with no problems! It simply doesn't allow the very center of the band to bend very far, but doesn't effect the functionality of the band one bit.
