GVHD700 Sony Walkman as DVCAM
I bought the Walkman to use as a DVCAM for video editing.
Disappointment
This deck is larger and feels much less solid than the deck it replaces, the GV-D1000. Worse, Sony removed the ability to use a hard wire to start and stop the deck. One of the best things about the GV-D1000 was its LANC capability. All in all, this deck feels flimsy and for me it is virtually worthless. In a studio environment its probably OK. But for serious field work, nadda.

Amazing quailty on your HD TV
I have a large collection of DV and HD DV tapes and wanted a way to play them on my home entertainment system without hooking up my camera. The Sony Video Walkman is just the ticket. I hooked it up using a DVI cable and can play my HD DV tape in high definition on my TV with amazing results. I also have used it to edit my tapes with good success. It is very portable and compact.
