I read almost all other reviews for the DC14 Part of my due diligence was to read most of the reviews. I must say, after using this product for a while, I believe some of the 1 star reviews are created by Dyson's compeditors.

Claims of cheap, flimsy, loud, heavy, and poor engineering and design are not true. This unit has a great design and cleans better than anything we have used.

This is an excellent vacuum! I've heard many good things about Dyson, and after careful consideration, I opted to purchase this model. This model fit our budget a bit more than the others, as well as having a good warranty.
The vacuum picks up very well, from dust to pet hair. The machine is very simple to use, and the instructions are visually oriented.
The pull out hose (the extension) was a little confusing in the beginning, but not too hard to figure out. The design overall is different than other brands tha... –Bellasnowfrom Amazon.com

Beware the beater bar clutch, the weak link? This is a decent vacuum when it works. Today the clutch went out for the second time in less than a year. When the clutch dies, the beater bar will not work. My DC14 is still under warranty, but I suggest that if you own one, you also have a 2nd vacuum cleaner for the times that it is in the shop. –D.
