03 May 2009 You Get What You Pay For I use a blender daily for fruit smoothies, and this one is far superior to any previous one I've owned. Blender is thoughtfully designed, sturdily built and a pleasure to use. I originally wanted a glass pitcher, but went with this polycarbonate pitcher and am very pleased. You get what you pay for:

Performance:
- Smoothies come out smooth to the very top. No banana chunks or annoying foam on top.
- Blends quickly and thoroughly blends frozen fruit.

29 Apr 2009 Works Well; Skeptical About Durability I've had the blender for about a month. Very powerful, does a good job creating a vortex for complete blending. I'm concerned about the durability, because the gear-shaped coupling between the jar and the base does not seem to make a solid connection. Seems to be one gear shaped plastic piece fitting into a gear shaped plastic socket. Googling reveals this is indeed a problem with the blender. Of course, I wouldn't have known to check for this before I bought it. –sbpfrom Amazon.com
13 Apr 2009 Bad carafe It didn't take much use to see the bottom of the carafe crack in two places. (Mostly used for smoothies and to blend soups, also minimal ice crushing with liquid.) While it is still usable under certain circumstances, cracks in plastic harbor bacteria and cause a potential for food poisoning. Of course KitchenAid is not willing to replace it after 1 1/2 years and I'm not terribly interested in buying another $60--$70 carafe that is going to break after every 20 smoothies.
