Good quality paper
These notebooks are made with a heavier weight paper (20#) than the average recycled or even non-recycled notebook (18#; bigger is better). This means the paper has less bleed-through and doesn't tear as easily. Additionally it has a nice smooth hand, which is the feel to the surface of the paper. There's a double sided pocket at the front for other materials, and the micro-perforations work well....
