06 May 2009 Best Deal in Binoculars Bought a pair of Pentax DCF SP 8x43 binoculars over a year ago. I like them but I bought this Nikon 7430 Monarch 8 X 42mm ATB a couple of weeks ago because they are less expensive. I consider these two binoculars about equal. The Nikon's feel slightly lighter. That's a good thing. The image quality of both binoculars is equal in my opinion. I see what people are saying about the front lens covers. 01 May 2009 Excellent binoculars for birding I have recently taken up birding with my father - who's been birding for 60 years. On a recent trip he had his $1700 Swarovskis and I had the Nikon Monarchs - so I was able to test them both out side by side. To my eye they are identical in brightness and image clarity.
