Rear-projection tvs give you the largest screens for the money, and newer models have trimmed the depth and weight of the cabinet dramatically. HDTV capable sets are available, as well as widescreen models.
Rear-Projection TVs have images that are projected onto the screen from the back of the set. The projection technology can be either CRT (cathode ray tube), LCD (liquid crystal display) or DLP (digital light processing mirrors). LCoS (Liquid crystal on silicon) are also available, which keep the video bright and smooth on big screens.
Keep in mind the size of the room when picking out the size of your rear-projection set, so you will have enough space for an optimal viewing distance as well as for the larger cabinet size.
