I have a custom cabinet business; have had my "Used" Starretts that I bought 2nd or 10th hand (you choose)some 17 years ago; inherrited a 9" combo from my grandfather-in-law (who was a tool and die maker during the depression) and it's still as accurate as my others; I use them to check accuracy of the cheaper "engineer's squares" (though, who would dare use one if they have a Starrett); and have NEVER bought a brand spankin' new one, as these are all I need.
Excellent product and great price
As always, products from Starrett are excellent and dead accurate. Save you money on buying the cheap ones and spend a little more to get one you can trust. I have cheap ones and they are not reliable as I learned the hard way.

Starrett is simply the best in American tools. I was leary about buying from Amazon.com because of how much lower the price is from everywhere else on the web and in stores $230 is what this set goes for elsewhere, so the $183 price tag is a bargain. Definetly get the forged steel set(which is what this is) over the cast set. Cast set tends to chip or crack when dropped.
