Mystery Rock Rocks!
Our seven year-old enjoyed scraping away at the clay to make discoveries. He did work along side his dad, and the adult involvement added to the experience. We will purchase another in the future....

fun but a little expensive for what you get
Our 7 year old daughter had a blast with this. It was something we worked on together. Very educational and probably something she will remember for the rest of her life. It takes patience but its fun. The only thing is, two of the stones or gems that are included in the 9 that you get are teeny tiny little beads. They should at least tell you that beforehand. I think its overpriced. But the experience was great.

Fun, Messy and a bit disappointing
Our nine-year old enjoyed both the "dig" and the process of examining the yield. Definitely messy - we did it outside - and somewhat challenging given the "tool" which is essentially a plastic knife. Ultimately used a brass-bristle brush which was effective. She was outraged by the claim of a "genuine emerald" which was simply a glass bead; calling into question the legitimacy of all statements associated with the product.
